IN FALL FREE FOR ALL AT RIVERSIDE SPEEDWAY

 

            The Dan’s Service Center, Fall Free For All at the P.A.S.S. sanctioned Riverside Speedway in Groveton, New Hampshire, lived up to it’s reputation as a great fall racing classic here in the Northeast, as three drivers went home with $1,000 paychecks at the end of the day. Dwayne Lamphere won the exciting Late Model portion of the event while Bobby Therrien captured the Tiger Sportsman / Super Stock challenge. Charlie Rockwell won a highly controversial Street Stock race, Shaun Stetson captured the Cyclones, and Dan Benoit Jr. took home the four foot winners trophy in the Daredevils.

 

            The North Country Ford Late  Models brought a full field of cars to the main event with some of the top area drivers contending for the top prize. Twin State Speedway driver, Aaron Fellows jumped into the lead and held it til just past the mid-way point when Quinney Welch slipped by on a restart and grabbed the point. Welch brought several other cars with him, including Dwayne Lamphere and 2009 Milk Bowl champion, John Donahue. It looked like Welch would cruise to victory until a lap 88 restart saw Lamphere drive deeper into turn one, and then catapulted by Welch for the lead. This set up a great three way battle to the end as Donahue slipped underneath Welch for second. The final caution flew on lap 92 for a minor spin thus setting up an eight lap shootout. These final laps were reminiscent of the Clash of the Titans 150, as three cars battled to the end, with Lamphere claiming the victory over John Donahue, Quinney Welch, Dean Weber and Matt White. Donnie Lashua, Allen Fellows and Sammy Gooden won their respective qualifiers.

 

            The Tiger/Sportsman from Thunder Road invaded Riverside Speedway to take on the Budweiser Super Stocks with $1,000 going to the winner. The Tigers put on a great show and took home the top three spots, but Jerrad Ledger raced home fourth as the top Super Stock finisher, Matt Carbone 9^th and Jeff Marshall ran up near the front all day before fading at the end. The event was won by Bobby Therrien who dominated the event, holding off Derrick O’Donnell and Tony Rossi. Ledger raced home 4^th followed by Matt Potter. Heat checkers flew for Rossi, Joe Roberts and Ledger.

 

            Charlie Rockwell won a highly controversial finish in the River Bend RV Street Stock portion of the event. Andy Hill had led a good share of the main event and was looking like a sure winner until he went to the outside of a lapped car in turn one on the final lap. Charlie Rockwell made contact with Hill, putting Hill sideways, saving it but losing all momentum. Third place runner, Rubin Call dove into the rumble strips in turn two to take the lead, but ran a recovered Hill to the backstretch wall. As he did that Rockwell shot down below the pair and snatched the $1.000 paycheck and the victory. Call recovered to finish second ahead of a disappointed Hill. Howie Switser raced home 4^th ahead of Jesse Switser. Qualifying wins went to Dean Switser Jr., Jesse Switser and Andy Hill. Rick Utley Jr. won the consolation round.

 

            Shaun Stetson got the front early in the Jiffy Mart Cyclone main event and never looked back. Nick Pilotte, Howie Switser, Andy Simpson and Jason Wyman completed the top five.

 

            It’s the biggest event of the season for the Kids Only Daycare Daredevils as they race for the four foot winners trophy. When the checkers flew, Dan Benoit Jr. took home the giant prize. Jarred Ainsworth, Desirae Sicard, Stephen Donahue and Lucas Wheeler followed him to the stripe.

 

            The final event of the 2009 racing season is all set to go this coming Saturday, October 17^th, as Russ’s NAPA presents the Frostbite 400, a 250 lap four cylinder enduro paying $5,000 to the winner. Also on the card are the P.A.S.S. Sportsman championships, Dwarf Car Championships and Daredevils. Post time is 1;30pm, with a rain date set for Sunday, October 18^th at 1:30pm.
