FROSTBITE ACCIDENT VICTIMS CONDITION IMPROVES
A jarring crash in the 2nd Annual Frostbite 400 at Riverside Speedway in Groveton, New Hampshire sent one driver to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, by DHART helicopter with pending neck injuries.
Lyndonville, Vermont’s, Doug Bandy was injured in a three car pileup on the backstretch. Groveton Emergency Services, led by Allan Bryant and Terry Bedell, orchestrated the relief effort. The entire EMT group systematically removed the roof with the Jaws of Life tool, and extricated Bandy from his racer. At that point the DHART Rescue Team was called in to transport Bandy.
Bandy spent the night in the hospital where he was given a CT-Scan. Riverside Speedway General Manager, Dick Therrien, talked with Billy Bandy, Doug’s wife, at 9am on Sunday morning. She reported that Doug was very uncomfortable but in stable condition. So far no major neck injuries have been found, but they were performing an MRI on him on Sunday. He may have damaged his spleen, and there is some possible swelling in his spine. Billy stated that “Doug is hungry and anxious to go home! He also wanted to know who won the race?”
We will do our best to keep everyone updated on Doug’s condition as information becomes available. Please visit our website at www.riversidespeedway.org.
